Back to the news list Steady prices and remaining supplies for Polish ap
21 June 2018 - Media Release - Fresh Plaza
The 2017 season has finished for a lot of Polish producers, but not Basstion Fruit, who saw that there would be a shortage throughout Europe around this time of year and secured enough stock to make sure that they could continue to supply quality apples all the way through to the next season.

"We will definitely continuing selling last season's apples until the end of July for Golden, Red Pinova, Red Jonaprince, Jonagored and Idared varieties. The current prices have been good with wholesalers buying our fruits in the Netherlands from 0,78 €/kg (Golden 65+) to 1,20 €/kg (Royal Gala 75+). We are also still competitive with the prices from the Southern Hemisphere, so I encourage importers to buy our fruits!," urged company owner Michal Biedrzycki.

After all of the difficulties throughout Europe last year, Michal said that the upcoming season should be completely different. Although it is always difficult to say with completely certainty what will happen when at the mercy of mother nature, he said that over 4 million tons of apple production is expected in Poland. The Royal Gala harvest is expected to start at the end of August/early September, if the weather continues as it has been.

"We will continue our focus on providing the best quality fruit possible, with our main varieties being Royal Gala and Golden. These are the varieties which are most recognised around Europe in our branded packaging and we have had good feedback from our customers. We have also developed a stable line for apples in polybags with our cheaper varieties like Idared." Michal continued.

"This year's situation; with potentially lower prices, decreased production in China and 'Trade Wars' around the globe, should bring us more opportunity with our overseas clients."
