Startup company NextPallet is touting its product, a hybrid of corrugated material and heat-treated wood, as a lighter and more sustainable than its all-wood competitors.
NextPallet’s heaviest pallet is 26.5 pounds and can support 2,400 pounds; other versions are 15 and 19 pounds, and all three are 50-70% lighter than wood pallets, according to a news release. They are reusable and recyclable. Results of testing are available online.
“You can customize the NextPallet with printing of bar codes, logos, and anything else you need,” according to the release. “It is also RFID-ready for the increasing number of companies that choose to exploit tracking technology.”
The pallets are ISPM15 certified, meaning they are resistant to pests and plant diseases and can be used for export shipments, NextPallet president Tod Ginnis said in an e-mail.
“We expect the NextPallet to price competitively with new, heat-treated wood pallets,” according to the news release. “(Full truck load) and container shippers who regularly run into weight restrictions benefit by loading more product onto each truck or container.”
