Back to the news list Dried Arctic ApBitz snacks available on Amazon aga
18 February 2019 - Media Release - The Packer

Arctic ApBitz dried apple snacks are available through Amazon again, with a new variety.

Okanagan Specialty Fruits, Summerland, British Columbia, offered ApBitz made from Arctic Golden Delicious on Amazon last March, and they’re returning with a tart version made from Arctic Granny Smiths, according to a news release.

“We’ve been rapidly planting more trees in order to increase our fruit supply and expand retail availability but, in the meantime, we decided to make Arctic ApBitz dried apples available online via Amazon.com so that everyone in the U.S. would have access to our crunchable ApBitz snacks,” Jennifer Armen, vice president of Okanagan Specialty Fruits.

The snacks are available in the original 0.75-ounce packs, and a new 3-ounce pack. Amazon.com currently lists just the 3-ounce packs, available in a 12-pack for $34.99.

The company plans to offer ApBitz at retailers this season as well, according to the release.

The apples, grown in Washington, have been genetically engineered so they don’t brown, and mostly destined for the fresh-cut market. The “fry-cut” ApBitz aren’t sold as fresh because they don’t fit the size specifications needed for fresh-cut processing machines, Okanagan Specialty Fruits President Neal Carter said in the release.

“Since one of our core initiatives is to reduce unnecessary food waste, we don’t want the unsuitably sized apples to go to waste so we developed ApBitz dried apple snacks which are just as healthy and delicious as our fresh slices,” he said in the release.
