NFO reports that in addition to the apple area, the pear area is decreasing in the EU-28 as well. In 2011, there were still 130,000 hectares of pears. In 2018, this had decreased to 116,000 hectares. Until 2014, the area decreased rapidly, although this decline then slowed down. The pear area is decreasing in Spain and Poland in particular, but also in Italy. The area is gradually increasing in Belgium and the Netherlands. On average, the EU has 18 tonnes per hectare of pears. In the Netherlands, the estimate is more than double this year: nearly 38 tonnes per hectare.
