Field Notes Q3 2025

Welcome to the third edition of R&D Field Notes, a quarterly newsletter where we share highlights and stories from NZAPI’s R&D programme.

As we reach the halfway milestone of our R&D programme’s ambitious seven-year journey, it is fitting to reflect on its progress.

Now a well-established and sophisticated initiative, NZAPI’s research programme consistently delivers tangible results and impact for the pipfruit industry. From the outset, we have prioritised a practical application of research, ensuring that the work of scientists translates into real-world solutions for growers, exporters, and partners.

Today the key focus remains on technical market access as we actively investigate ways to further support the sector’s pest and disease management. Our emphasis on data-driven tools and bioprotection is critical to this and to maintaining the industry’s systems approach.

These efforts are vital, not only to maintain today’s progress, but also for unlocking new opportunities as we strive to double exports and become a $2 billion industry. At NZAPI, we remain dedicated to driving productivity, supporting growth and ensuring the innovation pipeline delivers practical results that help our industry now.

I hope you enjoy reading more on the brilliant work being done in our programme, and as always, please let us know what you think.
