Funding for New Zealand Apples & Pears Inc. is largely provided through a compulsory grower levy. The rate of the levy is set annually at NZ Apples & Pears's Annual General Meeting and the maximum level able to be set is 1.5 cents per kilogram of apples or pears sold in New Zealand or exported for sale.
The levy from 1st November 2017 is 1.25 cents per kilogram.
The levy for the 2006 through to 2009 seasons was 1 cent per kilogram. The levy was 1.25 cents per kilogram from the 2010 season until 31 Oct 2013. From 1 November 2013 until 31 October 2017 the levy was 1 cent per kilogram. The levy rate From 1 November 2017 has increase to 1.25 cents per kilogram.
Before the Annual General Meeting budgets are distributed to all growers for their consideration. Voting on the levy amount is in direct proportion to the levy paid by each grower.
